12 Days of Christmas - Day 4: Exploring Equine Anatomy

Updated: Jun 5

This is one of my favourites - it's good for your soul and encourages you to take time out for yourself.

If you know someone who could do with indulging in a little 'me time' this is the gift for them - or anyone who loves horses.

This colouring book showcases Gillian's love for equine anatomy and drawing. She is known for whiling away the evenings drawing and challenging herself and to illustrate how the different structures in the horse's body move during different movements.

After about six years Gillian had built up a sizeable collection drawings - then the pandemic hit.

"It's always been a bit of a dream to put together a colouring book, mainly because I love doing it," says Gillian. "During lockdown I had the time to make it happen. What I love about this colouring book is combining the therapeutic benefits colouring with learning - studying different horses doing different movements is challenging the anatomy and really gets you looking at the muscles not just in one fixed position because they're not a fixed thing. They really do move and change as the horse moves and I think that's something brought to life in this book."

Exploring Equine Anatomy is a mindfulness colouring book that celebrates the beauty of the horse from the inside out. We're probably all guilty of not taking enough time for ourselves. This colouring book encourages you to stop and sit quietly to create your own works of art. In a short space of time you’ll find your mind will be calmer and quieter.

Take your time colouring in each of the beautiful images – a great thing to do to while away those long winter evenings. As well as the benefits to your mental health it will also boost your knowledge of anatomy in a fun way.

There are also inspirational quotes and the anatomical terminology of the muscles and skeleton preceding each section, it gives the perfect opportunity to learn as well as relax.
