Horses Inside Out Conference 2016 Gillian HigginsGillian Higgins. is an equine physical therapist, functional anatomist, biomechanist, BHS Senior Coach, author and anatomical artist with a special interest in assessing movement, compensation patterns and designing exercise programmes for rehabilitation and maintenance. In 2006 Gillian founded Horses Inside Out to bring the latest scientific research to riders, trainers, therapists and other equine professionals to show how understanding equine anatomy and biomechanics can improve welfare, performance and reduce the risk of injury. Gillian runs biomechanics, dissection, and CPD courses for professionals well as anatomical painting, massage, stretching and video based courses for horse owners both in the UK and abroad.

Mark johnsonMark Johnson is a qualified farrier with an interest in horsemanship. Following his apprenticeship and having seen many recurring problems with in the farriery industry, Mark set out to find the best and innovative ways to manage horses’ feet, give them the best possible experience, ensure they are comfortable and thus perform well for their owners. Mark often takes part in our dissection series willingly sharing his expertise and considerable knowledge. Mark is a leading campaigner in the ‘Hope for Horses’ campaign and is passionate about the welfare and well being of all horses.

 

Seth O'NeilSeth O'Neil’s clinical and research interests focus around tendon disorders in particular lower limb tendinopathy and rupture. He is particularly interested in improving treatments and preventative strategies. After completing a PhD ‘A Biomechanical Approach to Achilles Tendinopathy management,’ which showed the importance of Soleus muscle strength in relation to tendinopathy. He is currently studying using world leading tendon imaging techniques to examine tendon structure in healthy and diseased tendons in order to understand tendon disease more fully. Seth works with Oakham Vets using ultrasound to detect tendon Injuries in horses and recently presented to the British Equine Veterinary Conference in 2018.

Anatomy displayAnatomy Gallery

legStudy and get hands on with a variety of anatomical specimens, models, resources and drawings on display.
The skeletal specimens are from a variety of ponies and, with array of anatomical anomalies they demonstrate the fact that there is rarely a textbook skeleton! With extra ribs, too many or too few vertebra, growth plates, and distorted hooves there is much to be learnt!


Horse ScienceScientific Poster Presentation Area

The 2020 Horses Inside Out Conference will feature a display of 12 scientific posters relating to the theme “Anatomy in Action’.

Category 1 : Student Posters. A certificate and prize will be awarded for the best and runner up research poster submitted by a student. Judge to be announced.
Category 2: Research Posters. Posters in this category can have been presented at previous conferences.

About Loughborough and the Area

The Leicestershire town of Loughborough with excellent rail, road and air links is set in the heart of the East Midlands. It has a vibrant Saturday Market and is also the home of the Bell Foundry Museum which is  well worth a visit. The nearby Charnwood Forest and Bradgate Park nearby are great centres for walking and exploring. The University itself has an excellent reputation for research, student experience and is globally renowned for its sporting and sports science facilities. There is plenty to do in and around Loughborough for family who may be accompanying you to the conference.
