The Principles of Movement. This focuses on the basic anatomy of how the horse moves in walk, trot and canter and how his conformation can affect these gaits.
As you would expect from Horses Inside Out this subject is brought to life by Gillian and the team painting the skeleton on one side of Gillian's horse Artistic Flair (Arty) and the muscle chains on the other side. This online lecture demonstration is full of tips and in-hand exercises that you can do with your own horse to help improve his performance.
Although each lecture demonstration can be viewed as a stand-alone event. However as we progress through the series each episode builds on the last, and introduces more anatomical structures and principles of biomechanics.
Course Structure
The Anatomy
The first half delves into the anatomy of the horse and demonstrates connections by doing some in-hand movements and exercises. To add another exciting element and to boost your learning of this fascinating subject Gillian uses real bones to illustrate their position and range of movement.
The Paces
In the second half you’ll see Arty on the lunge and Gillian discusses gait assessment and the biomechanics of how the horse creates movement.
Polework
Arty loves polework and demonstrates this beautifully. See the effect of poles on skeletal and muscular movement, posture and way of going.
Jumping
To finish Arty jumps on the lunge to demonstrate joint range of movement, biomechanical connections and athleticism.
